New York Awards $85M in NG911 Funding
New York allocated $85 million in grant funding to support the state's efforts to transition public safety answering points (PSAPs) and backup centers to implement next-generation 911 technology in all of its 57 counties, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced Thursday. All eligible counties received a "base amount" of $1 million, with the remaining funds allocated based on population.

"These investments will ensure that our 911 systems are operating effectively and efficiently when any New Yorker reaches out for emergency assistance in their time of need," Hochul said. The move builds on other investments earlier this year to enhance emergency communications systems. Under the new grant program, PSAPs will receive "new equipment and software to increase their capabilities," added Jackie Bray, commissioner of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
