Trump has given ByteDance multiple extensions (see 2506200040) to comply with a 2024 law that requires the company to sell TikTok (see 2504040062). The law is intended to address concerns that the Chinese government could use TikTok to spread anti-U.S. propaganda and gain access to U.S. users' personal information. The previous extension was scheduled to expire Sept. 17.

The announcement of another delay came one day after U.S. officials said they had agreed to a framework with Beijing for ByteDance to divest TikTok to U.S. buyers (see 2509150007).
