RWA Continues Opposition to Verizon Buy of Spectrum From UScellular
The Rural Wireless Association fired back at Verizon and UScellular arguments that the FCC should approve their proposed spectrum deal (see 2507230030). Replies were due Friday in docket 25-192. Last week, RWA and other groups filed a challenge to an FCC Wireless Bureau order approving T-Mobile’s buy of wireless assets from UScellular, which is exiting the business (see 2507110045).

Verizon and UScellular “incorrectly argue that RWA’s arguments are moot” and that “there are transaction-specific public interest benefits of the transaction,” RWA said. The carriers are wrong that RWA failed “to identify transaction-specific public interest harms,” that "UScellular’s exit from the market is not relevant to this transaction” and that “rural carriers were provided a fair opportunity to acquire spectrum from UScellular,” the filing said. The lack of “verifiable, transaction-specific public interest benefits is especially acute when it is weighed against the significant harms to competition that this transaction presents.”
