CTIA Asks FCC to Move Quickly on Upper C-Band Auction

CTIA officials met with an aide to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr urging the agency to take the next steps toward an auction of upper C-band spectrum. Carr has promised to move quickly on spectrum and put a notice of inquiry on the upper C band on the agenda for his first meeting as chairman in February (see 2502050057). CTIA noted that the FCC once again has auction authority following the enactment of the reconciliation package (see 2507070045).

“Upper C-band spectrum will deliver more of the capabilities and capacities that C-band frequencies enable today,” said a filing posted Friday in docket 25-59. The success of the first C-band auction and transition “was due to favorable characteristics of mid-band airwaves, decisive actions by the FCC, and substantial work that myriad stakeholders undertook to rapidly transition and safely deploy the band,” CTIA said. The upper C band “holds this same promise, and CTIA urges the FCC to move swiftly toward seeking comment on proposed timelines for auctioning, transitioning, and opening Upper C-band spectrum for full-power terrestrial wireless use.”
