FCC Space Bureau Chief: We Want to Be Biased Toward Permission

Schwarz told AEI nonresident senior fellow Shane Tews that rural areas are starting to see broadband competition due to satellite-provided connectivity, which will ultimately lead to "astounding levels of competition." While the FCC's satellite regulation is "a classic gatekeeper model ... a 'mother, may I?' approach," other parts of the agency have moved away from such "highly subjective [and] bespoke" reviews, he said. "We want to sort of have a mindset of a bias for permission."
