“It's a rare moment in business: A company with a record valuation, a CEO with a flawless balance sheet -- and yet, behind the scenes, a change at the top is likely being considered,” the report said. It would come as T-Mobile moves from being a wireless provider to a converged company with a growing set of fiber assets, the newspaper said. Sievert would step down at the end of this year or next year, according to the report, which speculated that he would be replaced by COO Srini Gopalan, who formerly led DT’s Germany business.

“We don’t comment on rumors or speculation, but we will certainly reiterate what Mike has said recently,” a T-Mobile spokesperson emailed Tuesday. “He loves his job, and believes the most exciting chapter ever in our company’s history is our ‘Challenger to Champion’ plan that we are pursuing over the next several years.” Sievert and the board “are delighted that we have recruited Srini to join our team as COO and bring his experience to our business.”
