Federated Supports Limited Changes to CBRS Rules
Federated Wireless representatives urged the FCC to protect citizens broadband radio service operations from harmful interference in a meeting with an aide to Chairman Brendan Carr. There are “practical, near-term improvements” to CBRS operations that “can be readily implemented,” said a filing posted Monday in docket 17-258. They include “more realistic incumbent protections, higher base station power and harmonized out-of-band emissions.”

Federated emphasized that DOD participation in the CBRS band is “a cornerstone of the U.S. spectrum sharing model -- demonstrating that dynamic coexistence between federal and commercial users is both practical and effective,” the filing said. “Building on this success, there is a clear opportunity to enhance the framework … without having to clear and transition the CBRS band, which would result in a very lengthy relocation process costing American taxpayers billions of dollars.”
