Simington Endorses Wax for Commissioner Seat
Former FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington said in an interview Saturday that he “would be delighted” to see his seat go to his Chief of Staff Gavin Wax. Simington said that commissioner nominations are 100% up to President Donald Trump and he wanted to “take pains” not to “front-run” Trump’s choice, but that Wax would be a good fit for the job. Among others being discussed for the position are FCC General Counsel Adam Candeub, National Economic Council Deputy Director Robin Colwell, NTIA Deputy Administrator Adam Cassady and current NTIA Administrator nominee Arielle Roth.

Simington acknowledged that Wax has only been in the telecom sphere for roughly two months, but he pointed out that he himself was also considered an outsider when he took office in 2020. “If anyone had made a short list of the 1,000 people most likely to be nominated for the commission in summer of 2020, it's a safe bet on my name would not have been on that list,” Simington said. “On the other hand, in all humility, I feel like I've had a fairly successful term. So I just I guess what I would say is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of upside in second guessing the president. Sometimes he has some pretty amazing ideas.” Simington told us that he has cleaned out his office at the FCC and completed his exit interview.
