FCC Waives Filing Deadline for Some CAF Recipients

The FCC Wireline Bureau on Wednesday granted a limited waiver of the support reduction schedule for some recipients of Connect America Fund high-cost support that missed a July 1 network performance testing certification deadline. The waiver applies to more than 20 companies.

“Specifically, for carriers that contacted [the Universal Service Administrative Co.] prior to the ... deadline, we will waive the certification deadline if the carrier clearly communicated that it did not have data to submit for certain quarters or if it notified USAC that it had technical difficulties testing or with the USAC system,” the bureau said (docket 10-90). Testing remains “necessary to protect ratepayers’ investment and ensure that carriers receiving this support deploy networks that meet the performance standards they promised to deliver to rural consumers.”
