Wireline Bureau Delays Deadlines for Safe Connections Act Compliance
The FCC Wireline Bureau on Friday delayed the Aug. 20 deadline for larger carriers to meet the Safe Connections Act's requirements. The act's goal is to help domestic violence survivors gain access to safe and affordable communications services. The FCC approved an order implementing the act in November 2023 (see 2311150042).

The bureau will “announce a new deadline and will provide no less than six months after such announcement for carriers to come into compliance," the notice said. Smaller providers, which faced a compliance deadline of Feb. 20, 2026, will also get an extension. That new date will be not less than 12 months after it's announced.
As the commission explained in the order, “the covered hotlines listed in the database must be accurate and updated, and due to complex technical implementation challenges related to establishing a secure and comprehensive database, the agency requires more time for planning proper development, administration, and maintenance of the database,” the bureau said (docket 22-238).
