“Participants noted significant improvements in delivery of timely notifications and geographic targeting of preemptive power shut-offs to prevent wildfires, which are improving communications providers’ ability to prepare and respond,” the filing said. “They also noted that providers are making great progress in avoiding inadvertent fiber cuts in restoration efforts from hurricane events, such as Beryl, but more work remains because other crews clearing debris (e.g., local municipalities) continue to create fiber cut issues.” More than 40 member companies participated in the review of 2024, the filing said.

The forum was launched after Hurricane Michael in 2018. Members include the Competitive Carriers Association, CTIA, the Edison Electric Institute, NCTA and USTelecom.
