T-Mobile/UScellular Foes Meet Carr and Gomez Aides

Critics of T-Mobile’s proposed buy of wireless assets from UScellular spoke with an aide to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to elaborate on their concerns. The groups at the meeting were the Rural Wireless Association, Communications Workers of America, Public Knowledge, New America’s Open Technology Institute and the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society. Joined by EchoStar, the same groups also met with aides to Commissioner Anna Gomez.

They “expressed concerns with the Applicants’ proposed transaction, questioned its purported public interest benefits, and noted that the Applicants have the burden of proving that the proposed transaction serves the public interest,” said a filing Tuesday in docket 24-286. The same parties presented similar concerns last month in meetings with staff from the Wireless Bureau and the offices of Economics and Analytics and General Counsel (see 2503210032).

T-Mobile and UScellular announced a deal in May, valued at about $4.4 billion, including $2 billion in assumed debt (see 2405280047).
