Senator Seeks Foreign Terrorist Label for Two Venezuelan Entities

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, urged the Trump administration March 25 to designate two additional Venezuelan entities as foreign terrorist organizations.

In a letter to President Donald Trump, Scott said Cartel de los Soles floods the U.S. with cocaine, while the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence, or DGCIM, a government agency, has committed human rights violations, repressed dissent and carried out counterintelligence missions in the U.S.

Scott praised Trump for recently designating eight other Latin America-based criminal groups, including Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorists (see 2502190011).
