EU Requests WTO Dispute Talks for Chinese AD Duties on Brandy
The EU on Nov. 24 formally requested dispute settlement consultations at the World Trade Organization regarding China's antidumping duties on EU brandy imports. China has 10 days to respond to the request to find a mutually convenient format and date for the talks.

The EU said it believes China's provisional measures on EU brandy aren't in line with WTO rules, since China hasn't shown there to be any threat of injury to its brandy industry, nor has it established a causal link between the injury threat and brandy entries from the EU. The European Commission also said China opened the AD proceeding based on "insufficient evidence," contrary to the "standards of WTO law."
The commission said it's challenging the tariffs while the provisional measures are in place to take "strong early action to protect the interests of its industry and economy." China imposed the provisional measures in October, with the duties ranging from 30.6% to 39% (see 2410080021).
