Scott said a new wave of peaceful protests against the “oppressive” Cuban government underscores the need for his “Denying Earnings to the Military Oligarchy in Cuba and Restricting Activities of the Cuban Intelligence Apparatus” (DEMOCRACIA) Act, which he reintroduced in February 2023.

The bill is pending before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The House companion bill, reintroduced by Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., was referred to several committees.
