With the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan the first major event to be broadcast in 8K, Futuresource forecasts global shipments next year will be 1 percent of total shipments -- and about 100,000 shipped in Japan, or 2 percent of that country’s shipments. Barriers to uptake will begin to fall away and 8K will be a “significant part of the premium market by 2023," said Rubin.
