HD Radio chip should be built into satellite radio receivers, an FCC official said. The agency also wants to know how far advanced HD Radio is and how many broadcasters offer HD. IBiquity wanted the agency to require an HD Radio chip in all post-merger satellite radio receivers, but the FCC delayed a decision. The item includes questions aimed at gauging satellite and terrestrial radios’ competition, the official said. In an order approving the Sirius takeover of XM, the agency said it needed more information to rule on how satellite and terrestrial radio compete. The FCC also wants to know whether to require that other technologies be part of satellite radio receivers, the official said. The FCC could release the NOI as early as next week, the official said.
