At the August 4, 2010 COAC meeting, CBP announced that Cindy Allen, National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America Educational Institute Director, has been named Executive Director of the Automated Commercial Environment. According to CBP, Allen will be working in CBP's Office of Trade, under Dan Baldwin.
CBP has posted an updated version of its ACE "Topic" document on e-Manifest: trucks that provides step-by-step instructions on how to create and submit an electronic manifest. Additional information on registering Crew, Conveyance and Equipment is also included.
CBP has issued a CSMS message announcing that it is discontinuing the use of the unknown Manufacturer Identification Number (MID) as data to report the manufacturer (or supplier). The discontinuation will take effect September 15, 2010.
CBP has issued a CSMS message stating that it has resolved the issue with creating a new ACE report from scratch and modifying existing reports. On July 23, 2010, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin sent a letter to 16 trade and industry groups1 responding to a list of proposals that were presented to him to improve Customs regulations and operations.
CBP has issued a CSMS message stating that it is currently experiencing a problem with creating a new ACE report and modifying existing reports. The “canned” ACE reports are working correctly. CBP will be delivering a production repair on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2010.
The Government Accountability Office has issued a report entitled “Border Security: CBP Lacks the Data Needed to Assess the FAST Program at U.S. Northern Border Ports.”

CBP has issued a CSMS message stating that it has resolved a previously announced issue in which the bar code was not being displayed on cover sheets for truck e-Manifest. On July 19, 2010, the Senate Appropriations Committee reported S. 3607, the fiscal year 20111 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security (including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, etc.)
