Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "universal service fund").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.(e.g. NTIA).

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., "FCC chairman" +Pai).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., FCC -Carr).

Simplest form: Use the simplest form of a term (e.g. "satellite" instead of "satellites" or "impose" instead of "imposed").

Triennial Status Reports Deployed in ACE, More to Come for Broker Fee Automation in 2022

CBP recently deployed ACE functionalities for “triennial status report/fee” automation, the agency said in an updated ACE deployment schedule. “Three additional capabilities will deploy in 2022,” it said Dec. 17. “Remaining deployments include Broker License Application with interface to ACE, Broker Permit Application with interface to ACE, and Broker Annual Permit User Fee with interface to ACE.” CBP also revised the expected deployment dates for Real-time Automated Surety Interface and USMCA drawback, according to the change log.

COAC Seeks CBP Clarification in Use of Audits on CTPAT Trade Compliance Members

CBP should work with the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee to “clarify the types of audits or reviews to which trusted trader partners may be subject regarding compliance, including forced labor,” the COAC Trusted Trader Working Group said in a recommendation that was approved during the Dec. 16 COAC meeting. Working group co-chair Alexandra Latham said CBP last month began Risk Analysis & Survey Assessments (RASAs) around forced labor (see 2012020046).

Proposal to End de Minimis Exemption for Section 301 Tariffs Added to Treasury Dept. Regulatory Agenda

The Treasury Department published its fall 2020 regulatory agenda for CBP. The agenda now mentions a proposal to end the de minimis exemption for goods subject to Section 301 tariffs. The proposal was previously disclosed by the Office of Management and Budget (see 2009040026), where it remains under review. Brenda Smith, CBP executive assistant international trade commissioner, recently cited some operational concerns with the idea (see 2011100034).
